In 2007 Ofil has launched successfully the DayCor® Superb corona camera. The new DayCor® Superb is a held camera dedicated to enable easy and accurate corona and arcing detection for foot patrol.  Ofil, an experienced manufacturer of UV inspection systems, responded to the needs of its worldwide customers as expressed during the annual users’ group meetings and through feedback forms, and built the DayCor® Superb system.  Superb is, accordingly, ergonomic, light weight, sensitive and with built-in video recording and storing. Having to carry an inspection device and look at randomly selected components while walking in a dangerous environment is one of the scenes that a maintenance engineer is familiar to.  For such scenes Ofil has developed the DayCor® Superb: to assist engineers orient themselves freely and safely without loosing sight of the electrical components and the corona/arcing appearances. A large and clear LCD, as in the DayCor® Superb, rather than a viewfinder, leaves both the background and the inspected components in focus.  

Quite often we experience a light weight tool that turns into unbearably heavy. This is the case when a camera needs to be raised to eyelevel and stay there for more than a minute. Corona and arcing are tricky to find, and once detected the need to pinpoint their source is even trickier and involves extended viewing time. Acknowledging this simple fact, Ofil suggested using the stronger body muscles, instead, hanging the camera with a dedicated harness and releasing the hands from having to constantly hold the camera and from the resulting strain. Ofil has also introduced the use of a keyboard to control the camera’s functions directly and intuitively, hence Ofil believes in easy and reliable corona and arcing detection.

In DayCor® Superb Ofil has incorporated its own proprietary solar blind UV filters and optics. The outcome is, therefore, a remarkable sensitive and precise detection system sensitive to faint superficial partial discharge in full daylight at any weather condition with on line video recording of the findings. To support the detection and capture capabilities, Ofil developed reporting database software that handles the camera’s output, stores the collected video clips, images and notes, and produces analyzed information in a HTML format.
